(Not) looking a lot like Christmas

It's 23 December and I am in Panajachel Guatemala. The 13 B'ak'tun celebrations are over. The weather has been cool at night and a bit windy during the day but sunny. This is not a place where you will have a white Christmas. But, beyond that, it is not a place where Christmas is being marketed.

Xela Guatemala

Quetzaltenango is a city in a valley but high in the mountains in western Guatemala. At an altitude of 2333 meters, it at least qualifies as cool and, for many, cold. But, it is Guatemala's fastest growing city. It is commonly known as Xela -- a name that fits much better on bus signs.

on 17 December we decided to travel from Panajachel to Xela. There are direct buses from Pana. My friends Carl and Pam and I had decided to head to Xela after breakfast.
