Is BYD Coming to Mexico (and, then, the US)?

BYD had previously denied that it intended to enter the US car market but it looks like things have changed. They are now saying they are going to build a plant in Mexico that will have 10,000 employees. Sure, many of those cars will head to Latin America but it also sounds like the US will be a target.

Why the change? My guess is that with Tesla prioritizing the RoboTaxi over the new small consumer car, BYD sees they have an opportunity. Personally, I think they are right. I don’t think Tesla has made a mistake — they have more to gain with the RoboTaxi market and their self-driving capabilities put they ahead of everyone else.

The Electric Viking has more to say about this.
