While BYD has yet to say it plans to sell cars in the US, they did just say they are on their way to Canada. The Electric Viking has more to say about it.
The reality is that BYD has a huge range of EV models are are selling them in much of the world. Clearly they are serious about the EV market. And, unlike most Chinese manufacturers, they are not owned by the Chinese government.
For those who say that they receive financial benefits from the Chinese government, don’t forget that GM, Ford and Stellantis receive financial benefits from the US government. The most important difference is that BYD actually makes a profit on EVs.
BYD took over an ex-Ford plant in Brazil and still plans to build a new factory in Mexico. Their EVs are currently available in Mexico but not Guatemala, El Salvador or Nicaragua. Hopefully this will change soon.
