Well, not yet but it is sounding like they might be getting serious about EVs. They have concept versions of a small pickup and a large landcruiser. They also have some positive rhetoric about EVs as opposed to their regular anti-EV rhetoric.
The rumors also include the idea of using gigapresses (from IDRA) like Tesla does. I’ll believe it when I see it but Toyota’s choice to sit out the “version 1” game that Ford, GM and others got sucked into could be a good thing. As the Detroit Big 3 bleed cash for every EV they sell, they know that they need to redesign to make an efficient EV. Will Toyota get there first?
