Ambri Liquid Metal Battery

Not the right battery for an EV but an interesting choice for grid scale storage. Ambri has a liquid metal battery with a 20 year life. It uses Calcium and Antimony as the electrodes. The video doesn’t mention costs but the technology is interesting. In operation the temperature is high enough to keep the electrodes in a liquid state but when not in use the electrodes become solid which means there are no safety concerns. Ambri just got a contract for a trial use for grid storage.

This video tells the story.
