Google and Fervo build a new kind of geothermal power plant. Google’s desire to run all its data centers on “green energy” and Fervo’s technology (combined with $1 billion from Google) have created a new kind of geothermal power plant. While this is really just a proof of concept it appears to mean a change in what can be done with geothermal.
The controversial word in this technology is “fracking”. But most of the downside related to fracking for extracting petroleum are avoided. Plus the control system for this new technology means the power plant can adjust to demand. It’s pretty cool. Two Bit da Vinci tells the story.
