You probably read about a ship transporting EVs caught fire on July 25. Depending on where you read about it, the article may have gone anywhere from just stating that to strong implications that the fire was caused by an EV/EVs. Well, it wasn’t.
The Driven offers an article updating the information. While the salvage company has not yet determined what did start the fire, none of the EVs have burned so it is pretty conclusive that they were not the cause of the fire.
The article goes on to point out that no ship fires can be attributed to an EV with the exception of a a gasoline car “home-converted” to an EV that was charging on a ferry. Let me toss in that ICE cars (including hybrids) are much more likely to catch fire than a pure EV.
