In a recent article I suggested that VW might be in a fight for the bottom. Well, this new information suggests that it isn’t the bottom — it is just be effectively be Chinese.
VW’s software in its EVs sucked. They (that is, the Cariad group in Germany) tried to fix it. VW gave up and bought a software company in China who did fix it. So, VW software moved to China. VW has had multiple joint ventures with Chinese companies to build vehicles in China and has recently acquired parts of others.
VWs investments in China and current and upcoming layoffs in Germany suggests that rather than trying for the bottom they are just going to move to China. The Electric Viking offers a lot more.
